Recording your DD-214
We are happy to record your DD-214 discharge papers and Honorable Discharge Certificate at NO COST. Recording your discharge allows you to keep your original in a safe place and use the certified copies from the Recorder’s office when needed. At any time that you may need more certified copies, the Recorder’s office can provide those to you free of charge.
- To obtain a certified copy of YOUR OWN DD-214, which has been previously recorded in the Miami County Recorders’ Office, you will need to present a government issued photo ID.
- To obtain a copy of ANOTHER PERSON’S DD-214, which has been previously recorded in the Recorders’ Office, you will need proof that you are an “authorized party” (as defined in the Ohio Revised Code).
- A recorded discharge document is not a public record for a period of seventy-five (75) years after the date of recording.
Veteran ID Card
If you have an Honorable Discharge, you can get a Veteran ID Card at NO CHARGE that can be used for discounts from participating retailers around the state. These cards cannot be used to obtain VA benefits.
To record your discharge, please bring your driver’s license/photo ID and your Original or Certified copy of your discharge. If you don’t have your original and need help getting a certified copy, the Miami County Veterans Services Commission can assist you. You can call 937-440-8126 or click the link below to be redirected to their site.
