Mission Statement

The Miami County Animal Shelter is dedicated to protecting the health and safety of the public by enforcing the Ohio Revised Code, reuniting lost pets, and rehoming adoptable homeless animals with humane care and responsible adoption.

Serving Miami County Ohio as a no kill animal shelter since 2019.

What does no kill mean?

A 90 percent save rate is the nationally recognized benchmark to be considered “no-kill,” factoring that approximately 10 percent of pets who enter shelters have medical or behavioral circumstances that warrant humane euthanasia rather than killing for lack of space.

Our shelter proudly serves Miami County by offering the following services:

  • Shelter & Care for Stray Dogs - Providing safe housing and care for stray dogs found within Miami County.
  • Owner Surrenders (as space allows) - Accepting owner-released dogs and cats from Miami County residents. See our Rehoming Resources page for guidelines and alternatives.
  • Lost & Found Support - Offering lost pet assistance and partnering with Petco Love Lost to help reunite pets with their families.
  • Pet Adoption Services - Facilitating the adoption of homeless dogs and cats into loving homes.
  • Dog & Kennel Licensing - Sale of dog and kennel licenses available during regular business hours.
  • Animal Law Enforcement - Enforcing all state and county animal welfare laws, specifically Ohio Revised Code Chapters 955 and 959.
  • Need a Microchip or Vaccine? Walk-in public services available. Link to a Walk in Pet Services

FAQs

  • Does my dog have to wear his/her license tag?
First of all, it is the law. Also, wearing the license tag is the quickest way for your dog to be returned to you if he/she becomes lost.
  • Do you accept credit/debit cards as payment?
Yes, the Miami County Animal Shelter accepts credit/debit cards (there is a 2.7% processing fee for credit/debit cards), cash, and checks with photo identification. No starter checks, please.
  • How soon are dogs available for adoption after they arrive at the animal shelter?
Dogs wearing current license tags must be held for 14 days. Dogs without license tags must be held 3 business days. After that time period the dog may be available for adoption and they are kept for as long as it takes and we have room.
