May Is National Mental Health Awareness Month
Proclamation
Whereas:
IN SUPPORT OF NATIONAL MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH MAY 2023
WHEREAS, one in five adults experience mental illness each year and one in twenty adults experience serious mental illness each year, in the United States; and
WHEREAS, one in six youth aged 6-17 experience a mental health disorder each year; and
WHEREAS. the Tri-County Board of Recovery and Mental Health Services and other community organizations are committed to supporting local efforts to promote mental health; and
WHEREAS, environment and surroundings can play significant roles in overall health and well-being and agencies such as the Miami County Parks District recognize such and support the mental well-being through its mindfulness path and all of its parks; and
WHEREAS, safe, stable, and healthy home conditions set the foundation for achieving and maintaining good mental health; and
WHEREAS, early and effective interventions help individuals with mental health conditions lead full, productive lives; and
WHEREAS, Miami County's Mental Health Court helps educate, direct and connect said individuals to effective interventions and educates the community on resources through the Mental Health and Resource Fair; and
WHEREAS, businesses, schools, government agencies, health care providers, community organizations, and citizens share in the responsibility of working with mental health challenges and benefit from promoting mental wellness and supporting prevention efforts; and
WHEREAS, all citizens are called upon to commit to increasing awareness and understanding of mental health and defeating the stigma.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Miami County Commissioners declares that May is Mental Health Awareness Month. in honor of all of those living with mental health challenges and their families, and further to show our support and bring awareness.
And in Honor and Recognition, the Board of County Commissioners have hereby affixed their signatures to this Proclamation on this 4th day of May, 2023 in Troy, Ohio.
