Electric and Natural Gas Aggregation

What is aggregation?

Aggregation is an option under Ohio law to purchase electricity and/or natural gas for members of a buying group. Buying energy in bulk can give communities leverage to negotiate better rates and potentially reduce administrative costs. Having a program in place ensures the additional program benefits remain available for participants seeking price protection and budget stability. The utility continues to deliver electricity or natural gas to the residents’ homes, but the price of the energy supplied is negotiated by the aggregator.

Electric Aggregation

The Miami County Electric Aggregation contract through AES Ohio is a fixed rate of 6.49 cents per kWh (kilowatt-hour) for residential and small business customers which will terminate with the December 2025 billing. The new electric supplier is with Dynegy Energy Services beginning with the December 2025 meter read date at a fixed rate of 9.59 cents per kWh, until the December 2026 meter read date. While the 12-month offer is slightly higher than the current SSO rate, future SSO rates beyond May 2026 are not yet known. There is no early termination fee. The Village of Pleasant Hill is included in the Electric Aggregation Program.

Natural Gas Aggregation

The current rate for natural gas aggregation is 5.89 cents per mcf to terminate with the October 2025 billing. The County renewed with IGS Energy for a 24-month term at a fixed rate of $6.82 per MCF ($0.682 per ccf) starting with the November 2025 billing. There is no early termination fee.

Residential and small business customers that use less than 5,000 CCF a year in the unincorporated areas of Miami County and beginning November 2025 billing, residents in the incorporated Village of Pleasant Hill, are otherwise eligible unless they individually opt-out of the aggregation programs.

Miami County residents are eligible to participate unless they are:

  • Newberry Township residents (Newberry Township is already in an aggregation program)
  • Pioneer Electric Cooperative customers
  • Percentage of Income Payment Program (PIPP Plus) participants are not eligible
  • Consumers who have chosen an alternative supplier are eligible but not automatically included and should contact the Miami County Commissioners’ Office, if interested. Before joining, they should find out if there are any early termination fees for ending a contract with their current supplier.
  • Behind on utility bill payments to AES Ohio / CenterPoint Energy Ohio

  • Enrollment questions: Call IGS Energy at 1 (877) 353-0162, weekdays, from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. EST.
  • Call CenterPoint Energy (CPE) regarding loss of gas service, odor of gas, or for any other concerns or issues having to do with your local service. Budget billing and automatic billing options will continue to be available through CPE.
