Miami County Common Pleas Mental Health Court
The Miami County Common Pleas Mental Health Court, presided over by Judge Stacy Wall, has received a grant from the Opioid settlement funds received by the Board of Miami County Commissioners. This grant enables court participants to engage in equine therapy at Eagles' Wings Therapeutic Riding Center in Piqua. Eagles’ Wings focuses on the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of each participant.
The therapy helps build emotional awareness, social skills, impulse control, confidence, trust, and problem-solving abilities. Participants who completed the 8-week course reported experiencing all these benefits. One participant shared, "It just takes away all my worries and stress."
Currently, three participants have graduated from the program, and seven more are enrolled. Participation in the program is voluntary, and the Opioid Grant covers the cost of the 8-week program and any transportation needs. The Mental Health Court offers various coping skills and tools to help individuals find what works best for them.
